Blog Tour

Synopsis:

After losing her birth parents and her adopted parents Alexis Mabry is used to being alone. So after a year of horrible dates with everyone from sugar baby wannabes to cross dressers, she decides to stop dating altogether and focus on what matters most: her business and her friends in Mustang Prairie.

When she meets a handsome stranger on a trip to California she starts to wonder if its time to get back in the game.

Baxter Thompsen spent the last decade building his empire to the exclusion of everything but sex. Now tired of the socialites and starlets, he wants someone real. When he does she only wants a vacation fling and it's up to Baxter to show her that lust is great, but love is the real prize.

Is it lust or are Baxter and Alex more just a little bit in love?

“I think I’m going to get a mail order husband.”
“Well hello to you too Alexis. I’m fine my lovely best friend, how are you?”  Shellie replied when she picked up her phone. “So I take it the date went well?”  Alexis sighed, the weight of the world on her slim yet well-built shoulders.  She knew that at 31 she was way too young to worry that she would be alone forever and she would laugh at the notion if she hadn’t been alone, well, forever.
“Remember that guy Doug you went out with before Noel came to Mustang Prairie?”  Shellie huffed out a laugh. “You mean that jerk who thought eating nothing but pudding on our date, with his fingers, would make me so lust crazed that I’d rip off my clothes and jump him in the parking lot? Yeah I vaguely remember him. So?”  “So the guy tonight, Gregory—not Greg but Gregory—made Doug look like the kind of guy you take home to meet dear old mama.” That was saying a lot considering Doug did in fact paw and slobber all over Shellie in the parking lot without her consent.  “Wow. Just…wow.”  “Yeah. You know that dick had the nerve to tell me he would ‘show me how he would earn his keep’ and that was after calling me sweetheart, doll and sugar tits!”
Shellie chuckled at her friend’s drama. “That man did not call you sugar tits Al. Did he?”  She scoffed. “Of course he didn’t but he did call me doll and sweetheart.  The ass. I swear Shel, this guy was like a stereotype of a bad date in a movie with that chick that used to be on Grey’s Anatomy.”  “Oh jeez Al, what did you do?” Shellie knew her best friend had a bit of a temper at times and she hoped she wouldn’t be driving to LAX with nothing but a shovel in her carry-on.  “That’s the thing Shellie. You’d be so proud of me because I didn’t do anything. I didn’t punch him in his throat or stab him with a fork. Hell I didn’t even throw the candle into the dirtbag’s lap. Nada.”  “Al,” She said with warning in her voice.
“Okay fine I patted his cheek a little firmly and told him off. But that’s it. Pinky swear.”  “Well that is good girl. I’m proud of you.”
“Yep I’m a regular paragon of restraint.” Her dry tone was the only
indication of just how despondent she was over yet another bad date.  “Come on Alex this is just one bad date. There’s no reason to start buying up husbands. Yet.”  “I’m not gonna buy a husband. I’m going to mail order one. Big difference.”  “The difference is that you’ll get some studly Russian who is secretly a serial killer and use your skin to make new furniture.”  Alexis laughed loudly, feeling much better now that she was chatting with her best friend. “Shellie you think everyone is a serial killer.”  “That’s because they are a lot more prevalent than the world thinks.”
“Okay Shel fine, I will skip over all the gorgeous blue-eyed Russians on OrderMeAHusband.com. Will that make you feel better?” “What would make me feel better is if you start your search a little closer to home. Why not try out one of those matchmaking sites that hook you up with millionaires and billionaires? At least that way the money situation will be a non-
issue. And hey they’ll be hooked by your photo alone and then when they find out you have your own millions they’ll be hopping on I-57 to get down there as fast as they can.”
“Hell no! I don’t want no stuffy ass, rich stick in the mud Shellie. No thank you.” While she was pretty open about the types of men she dated Alex did not want to date a man from a wealthy family. The last time she tried that she was miserable for the six months she was engaged and broken hearted for a year after
she was no longer engaged. Nope that definitely was not going to happen. “You know Alexis, not all rich people are like them.” She wished she knew all the details of what went down with Alex’s ex, but her friend was unusually tight lipped about her six month engagement.  Alex did know that logically, but really it didn’t matter. “I do know that Shel, but I’m not going there again. I can’t.” She refused to ever be put in that situation again where she never felt good enough for a bunch of judgmental assholes who think their money is better because it was older.  “Well my dear friend whom I haven’t seen in person in two whole months, you could always come out here early. We could hit the beach, eat some good sushi and find you a man.” Really she just missed her best friend, but she also thought the good weather would cheer Alex right up. “You know what Shellie? That sounds like a great…oh no!”  “What’s up Al?”  “Not again. I don’t freakin’ believe it.”
“Alexis! You’re mumbling and I don’t know what you’re saying. You are scaring me dammit, tell me what the hell is going on!”
She sighed in disgust. “I’ve just seen something I will never in a million years be able to un-see.” Her neighbors were at it again.
Shellie giggled. Giggled. “Not Luna and old man Scanlan again?”
Alex turned off her lights so she would no longer have to star at Mr. Scanlan’s bare ass, before turning off her car and stepping outside. “Yep Luna and Mr. Scanlan. Doing it. Outside. On the side of the house where my driveway is.”  Shellie’s laughter grew louder with a few harsh breaths mixed in for good
measure. “Oh man that is too much!” She paused to catch her breath. “Leave the phone on, I’ve got to hear this.”
“I hate you.”  “You love me and you know it Alexis Mabry.”
“Yeah well, right now I hate you. Hang on.” She walked to her newly painted stairs as the elderly couple righted their clothes. “Seriously guys?”  Luna McPatrick patted down her wild grey curls and stepped forward. “Hi Alexis dear, you are looking gorgeous this evening. Hot date?”  “Luna come on, why were you guys doing it in my driveway? I don’t need to see that. Like, ever.”
“Psssh dear don’t be such a prude. You know me and Seamus here don’t mean anything by it. We were just trying something new I saw on that show where that girl with the lovely clothes is humping the President. They were doing it right up against a wall and I thought that was something we could try before we
got too old, ya know. So we tried it on my side but the grass is too high on the side of the house and since Seamus lives just on the other side of you we figured we could take advantage of your lack of weeds under that window right there. Plus dear you have that motion sensor light in case we needed to, uh, readjust.”  Alexis dropped her head down into her hand, listening to Shellie cackle
like a wild hyena giving birth from somewhere down by her hip. Her eyes shifted to Seamus who was red as a beet and shuffling his feet uncomfortably. “Look Luna I’m glad you guys have such a, uh, robust sex life. Really, I am. But you are like my grandparents and trust me when I tell you I do not ever want to see my grandparents humping against my house like horny teenagers. Ever.”  Luna clapped her hands excitedly. “Well dear at first Seamus was a bit nervous about doing it standing up, he was worried his hip or his knees might give out with all the pressure. But after we were going for a while he just got really
excited and well we felt like a couple of horny teenagers.” She covered her mouth so Seamus wouldn’t see, but Luna whispered like a freight train. “All without the little pill too.” Her raised eyebrows let Alex know that she was supposed to be impressed by her 76 year old neighbor’s sexual prowess.  Shellie was hyperventilating from laughter while Alex stood jealous that
her senior neighbors were getting it on more regularly than she was. Well if you didn’t include her regular sessions with Brad, Taye and Thor. She snaked her eyes over to Seamus, who found the tips of his shoes unusually interesting this evening. “Yeah, er, well done Mr. Scanlan.”  He tipped his invisible hat in her direction and made a quick dash for the safety of his home. “Night ladies.”
Luna wiggled her fingers sexily in his direction. “We’re not done yet you Irish devil. I need to pick up a few things and I’ll be back. Soon.” Luna turned back to Alex. “He may not look like much Alexis, but that man was blessed with size and skill. And the things he can do with his to—”  Alex held up her hand. “Luna please! I really don’t want to hear this.”  Luna huffed as if she were the one put out. “Fine dear I won’t tell you why I call him ‘Tornado Tongue’ but you should be happy a couple of old fogies like us
are still going at it. Gives you hope for your old age, doesn’t it? Of course you have to find a man first.” She tapped her chin in thought. “You’re not still pining away for Shellie are you? Because you know she’s happy with that handsome Noel. I tell ya if I were just a few years younger I’d take that young man for a ride.”
Yes Luna also thought Alex was secretly in love with her best friend. Who was now laughing so hard Luna was staring at the phone she held. “Luna for the billionth time, I am not in love with Shellie. She is my best friend and my only family other than my two horny old neighbors who love to have sex under my motion light.”  “Well someone’s gotta use the light, honey.”  Alex walked past Luna and up her stairs to unlock the door. She turned to the woman who was like a grandmother to her. “See you in the morning Luna.”  “Goodnight honey. I’ll bring over some new coffee I got from Switzerland.  It tastes like chocolate.” With that Luna walked across Alex’s yard to her own home, presumably to get handcuffs and syrup so she could finish what she and Seamus started earlier.  Inside her front hall Alex put the phone back to her ear, “I’ll send you flight information in a few hours.” With that she kicked off her brand new wedges, grabbed a bottle of Riesling from the fridge and fired up her laptop. She was going to Los Angeles.

About the Author:
8574243.jpg

Hey I'm Natasha and I love stories. I love to read them, to watch them and most of all I love to write them. I find people endlessly fascinating and frustrating, which makes for the most interesting stories!

I also love politics and true crime so in addition to writing romance, I also write political satire & thrillers. It has been my dream to make a living as a writer since I was a kid and got lost in Judy Blume, The Babysitter's Club and Sweet Valley High (is my age showing?!?!). When I'm not writing I can be found engaging in one-sided conversations with Rachel Maddow, singing very loudly very badly and trying out new cuisines from around the world.

I love to laugh, I gave my husband a sappy pet name and I think answers to most of life's dilemmas can be found in an episode of Dawson's Creek.

My first series, Mustang Prairie, is small town romance because I feel they offer a variety of fun characters whose lives are interconnected. It is based loosely on my college town, which was the smallest town I've ever lived in...Go Panthers!
